The plan was to get up early and walk the eastern promenade with the dogs...but...gluttony and laziness made the calls today..."5 more minutes" won out yet again...although I was told today that this was the last day this was going to happen...I'd like the guy in the middle of the bed not being squeezed out in the cold to understand what it feels like to be goldylocks....(this bed is too hard....this bed is too soft...this bed has 3 too many people in it)....guess we'll see what tomorrow brings (hopefully no poorage...i'm stuffed!!!)
We headed out in search of Moose this am....
No, not this kind.....the chocolate kind (gluttony, remember??) Maine is filled with wonderful places to eat and to buy things to eat and they have definitely figured out the way to get you to do both!!! I was dropped outside Len Libbies Candies in search of photographing Lenny the Chocolate moose...but, as you can imagine, you can't just go inside and take a photo of the moose...you kinda have to buy something...so buy #1 today...milk chocolate covered cashews....(oh just writing about it even makes me sick....)
Onward to....more food......Maine Foodie Tours....yep, an entire tour of food.....we were warned parking maybe an issue but Chris is back to his "expert" skills and we parked right out front...here we met up with Randy (our tour guide) and Chris and Jill to toast to a fun filled day of food....we toasted with wine by Mead (courtesy of the Old Port Wine Shop) and nibbled on apple and pineapple with yummy salts from Vervacious....along with an excellent lobster roll......
Then we were onto sample cheeses from K. Horton Specialty Foods along with an amazing carmel sauce made from whey from goats milk with a speciality of Maine, sour mustard pickles, to cleanse our palate. At Stonewall Kitchen we devoured homemade scones with blueberry jam from Maine....(this was my favorite!!) while Chris sampled all of their other speciality sauces......anyone getting sick yet???
Luckily, there was a lot of walking involved in between eating, otherwise we may have killed over right there...we learned a lot of interesting facts about the history of the people of Portland....like lookie was 1 cent, touchie was 2 cents, and 3 cent dewey.....don't worry we didn't purchase anything but food!!! We also learned that Randy could juggle...... Lemons
We are still not done with the food tour.....we were off to the Harbor Fish Market to try some smoked trout....it didn't look great but it sure was fabulous!!!!
Then it was time for some desserts....Dean's Sweets offered us yet more chocolate truffles....and chris also purchased some chocolate with sea salt caramels for later (just ate one...ok, maybe this was the best...) and then at Two Fat Cats Bakery it was time to eat a whoopie pie.... now I had thought that the Amish (and Katie's family) had invented the whoopie pie in PA, but they beg to differ and say that ME's government was actually shut down a week to declare it dessert of the state.....(if only the federal government worked on important decisions like this...)
And, if that wasn't enough, we then washed it all down with several samples of Shipyard Brewing Company Beer....the blueberry and apricot versions were the best...
but beer is not my cup of tea... ( i'd rather have tea...)
so, I passed mine onto Chris.....
now you would think we would have been stuffed by this point, but we had learned about these fabulous donuts made from Maine potatoes that we just had to try on our way out of town....it was called the holy donut so we figured our sin of gluttony would be absolved with the first bite??? (yep, we devoured two....and they were worth all of the hail mary's....)
Now we were off in search of.....
the indians.....or just one giant Indian (if you followed us before, you know we are always in search of giant things....thank you roadside america!!!) We were going to also try out the desert of Maine but we figured that once you have been to the Sahara desert, the ME desert just wouldn't compare and crossed it off the list...Instead we needed some exercise before our next bout of food...we took a hike in Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park, where yet again, Rayne enjoyed the Atlantic ocean.......
Then it was time to kick it into high gear and....SHOP!!!!
We took to the stores in Freeport, the home of LL Bean for an afternoon of shop till you drop....luckily all of the food slowed us down (and my mom wasn't there) so our credit card didn't take too much of a hit!!! Chris (not a big shopper) was more interested in finding a barber for a hair cut....but he was closed....
So I found Chris hanging out here instead....
I couldn't believe Chris could be hungry again, but he said the shopping made him hungry so we had our last supper at Azure Cafe....I could only handle some soup and an appetizer crabcake but Chris enjoyed his fish dinner with mashed sweet potatoes.....
By this point, Chris' phone had died and so had many of our chances of an RV park for the night....but we were lucky enough to find one camp open near Agusta and took off to the next city----hey, last night we stayed at an adults only campground....at least we keep in interesting........ (we aren't pervs...we asked and they simply explained no kids...)

Hey guys - what have you been up to this week? I need my daily fix of Chris & April :)
